John Finbury Releases “Too Far To Go” from His Basement Tapes, Featuring Patty Brayden

Out May 14, 2025, on All Major Streaming Platforms

Boston, MA — Composer John Finbury returns with a poignant track from his unreleased Basement Tapes, titled “Too Far To Go,” featuring heartfelt vocals by his wife and longtime musical partner, Patty Brayden. The track will be available on all major streaming platforms starting May 14th, 2025.

Too Far To Go” is an early composition composed and recorded 45 years ago in 1980. With music by John and lyrics by Karen Petersen, the song highlights Patty Brayden’s emotive voice and marks the beginning of the couple’s long-standing creative partnership. Recorded at Downtown Recording studio in Boston with John playing piano, David Reiser on bass, and a 16-year-old Ted Pickman on Alto saxophone.

The song’s stride-inspired jazz/blues feel, influenced by Fats Waller, was recorded as a demo to shop the song and wasn’t originally intended for release.
