Recording at Power Station at Berklee NYC
At a time when many recordings are assembled remotely, I still value the experience of musicians playing together in the same room. Several of my projects have been recorded at Power Station at Berklee NYC, a studio whose acoustics and analog recording tradition continue to make it one of the most inspiring places to work.
The sessions were co-produced with Emilio D. Miler, and the goal was always the same: bring great musicians together and capture performances that unfold naturally in real time.
Sorte! (2019)
Sorte! was recorded in Studio B at Power Station with an extraordinary group of musicians: Thalma de Freitas, Airto Moreira, Chico Pinheiro, John Patitucci, Duduka de Fonseca, Rogério Boccato, and Vitor Gonçalves.
Working together in the same space allowed the music to develop organically. The room itself contributes warmth and depth, giving voice, percussion, and rhythm section the air they need to breathe.
Vã Revelação (2024)
For Vã Revelação, we returned to Power Station—this time recording in Studio A, using the studio’s legendary Neve console, whose analog character has shaped the sound of countless classic recordings.
The album features Brazilian vocalist Bruna Black, along with most of the band from the Sorte! Session.
As with Sorte!, the focus was on capturing performances as they happened—musicians listening, responding, and shaping the music together.
The Sound of the Room
Power Station combines exceptional acoustics with a classic analog signal path. The Neve console adds warmth and dimension, particularly for acoustic instruments, percussion, and voice. For music that depends on subtle phrasing and interaction between players, that environment makes a real difference.
